A transcontinental collaboration between Ajam and New York–based rapper Mazzi, Minab Golestane is a musical elegy for the children of Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab, Iran. It is also a critique of the unequal value placed on human lives when media attention, and the funding that shapes it, determines which tragedies are seen, remembered, or forgotten. The song is rooted in the musical traditions of southern Iran, drawing on the coastal rhythms and modal textures of Hormozgan that have carried the joys and sorrows of multi-ethnic ommunities for generations. At its heart is the voice of Khaloo Ghanbar Rastgoo, one of the most beloved figures in Bandari music, whose melody forms the foundation of this piece.
